Preventive Care Through Patient Education

Preventive measures seek to stop dental and oral health problems before they can start. We want to help you keep your smile perfect for life. Preventive care will help make that happen, and we believe that it requires a collaborative effort. This means working together to ensure proper oral health and hygiene is achieved throughout every stage of life.

We believe in working with our patients and educating them on the importance of at-home oral care, as well as staying diligent with their bi-annual check-ups, so we can establish positive lifelong dental habits.

How to Take Care of Your Smile Properly

To better ensure optimal oral health throughout your home, we highly recommend diligent attention to the basics, including:

  1. Brushing your teeth twice daily for at least two to three minutes.
  2. Flossing after brushing.
  3. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid gum and tooth irritation.
  4. Scheduling a dental visit right away if you notice anything unusual.
  5. Including vitamins A and C supplements into your diet to ensure gum health.

Cosmetic Services

Our dentists will evaluate every aspect of your smile, listen carefully to your goals, and recommend the most effective and economical solution to correct the problem. Common issues we can address are discoloration, mild misalignment, chips, cracks, and missing teeth.

At Prime Dental, we provide cosmetic procedures that can enhance any smile, so even if you weren't born with a beautiful smile, you could still have one. We offer many cosmetic dental treatments that can also be considered restorative treatments. Some of our most popular services include:

Restorations

The main reason for getting a dental restoration is to improve your oral health. If teeth have been lost or damaged, it affects your ability to chew food properly and can affect your digestion and nutrient absorption. Missing or severely damaged teeth may also burden any remaining teeth or cause them to shift. Tooth loss can lead to gaps and weakening of the jaw bone, leading to a prematurely aged appearance. Restorative options fill unwanted gaps, repair your bite, improve the appearance of damaged teeth, and provide essential stimulation to the jaw so that you can enjoy a healthy, functional smile once more.

Implant-Supported Restorations

Are you dealing with one or more missing teeth and wondering what your options are for beautiful, durable restorations? Traditional dentures used to be the affordable solution to missing teeth, but innovative dental technology has opened the door for more implant-supported restorations that look and feel entirely natural.

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of biocompatible titanium, which fuse with living tissue and bone when surgically inserted into the jawbone. Since implants replace the tooth from root to crown, they are a complete restorative option. Our team of dental professionals provides a variety of implant-supported restorations, including:

Implant-supported dentures - These options combine the features of traditional dentures and dental implants. They attach securely in place and will not slip like regular dentures.

Implant crowns - This is a fixed restoration that replaces the whole tooth, including the root. These restorations are permanent, and they look and feel just like your natural teeth.

Implant-supported bridges - An implant-supported bridge is similar to a traditional bridge. The difference is that instead of attaching the bridge to your natural teeth, it is anchored by implants on either side of the bridge.

All-On-Four – This procedure is one of our most popular and uses just four implants to stabilize a full arch of prosthetic teeth.

If you have lost teeth due to decay or trauma, no restoration option provides a comprehensive solution better than those supported by dental implants. There are many restorations to choose from, and our skilled dentists can help you determine the right treatment method for you.

Periodontal Care

A beautiful smile consists of healthy teeth and gums. At Prime Dental, we provide periodontal care using the latest in dental techniques and technology. Periodontal disease, at every stage, can be treated. Our goal is to restore your oral health and to prevent further infection.

A deep cleaning, also known as root scaling and planing, removes the buildup of plaque and tartar from underneath the gums and inside pockets. This recommended treatment option is the best option for mild to moderate gum disease and can take up to two appointments to complete. We can work on two quadrants at a time, to remove debris and plaque from deep below the gum line. Once the areas have been thoroughly cleaned, we smooth the roots of teeth to help treated gum tissue heal properly, preventing the reoccurrence of infection.

Anyone can suffer a dental emergency, and our Jenkintown dental practice offers compassionate care, quickly. Call us if you are experiencing severe discomfort or have an urgent dental care need. Until you arrive at our dental office, the following advice may help you manage your dental emergency:

  • The pain from a toothache, abscess, or injury can often be reduced with a cold compress or ice-pack. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be used to ease discomfort if there are no allergies present.
  • An abscess is an infection that can spread and endanger other teeth; if you have swelling or pimple-like sores around a tooth, you probably have an abscess. Call us right away!
  • If a tooth is avulsed (knocked out), try to place it back into the socket after rinsing your mouth and the tooth, gently. If a child has lost a permanent tooth, or if putting the tooth into the cavity is impossible, place it in milk or slightly salted water. Time is of the essence in these cases, and we need to see you within the hour for the best outcome.
  • Broken or dislodged restorations should be repaired within a few days of the occurrence. This vigilance prevents further damage to the remaining tooth, roots, and nerves.

Occlusal-Guards & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Protecting your teeth and your health with oral appliances can save you time and money and improve your quality of life. With appliances to help treat TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) and Sleep Apnea, the team at Prime Dental can help alleviate many debilitating symptoms.

Occlusal-Guards, or night-guards, are made from soft acrylic and customized to fit your upper or lower teeth. They are smooth and soft and act as a divider between your upper and lower teeth. These devices are very easy to take care of. Fabricated from smooth acrylic, all they need is a daily cleaning with your toothbrush and some cold water. When worn regularly, a night-guard will protect your teeth from further damage and eliminate any of the painful bruxism symptoms you might be experiencing.

Sleep Apnea Appliances reposition your airway and allow oxygen to flow, preventing loud snoring, and promoting restful sleep. The device works by separating the jaws and pushing them slightly forward which is much less invasive than the traditional CPAP sleeping mask.
